Summer Institutes in Denver, St. Louis, and Baltimore

An Estuary is happy to announce that our popular blended Summer Institute series for professional development will be expanding this year with institutes in Denver and St. Louis as well as at the Johns Hopkins University School of Education in Baltimore.

We are proud to announce our first An Estuary certified blended PD providers: Noah Geisel of Denver Public Schools and 2013 ACTFL National Foreign Language Teacher of the Year; Dr. Robert Dillon, Director of Innovation at Affton School District, St. Louis County, Missouri; and Sara Henschell, 2013 Outstanding Teacher at Baltimore City Public Schools. Blended professional development sessions led by our certified providers are delivered in a hybrid format supported by our Sanderling platform.

Digital Education Leadership Workshop Series at the ETC

An Estuary will soon be announcing a series of blended professional development workshops for educational administrators and teacher leaders which will be documented through Sanderling, will be badged via the Mozilla Open Badges standard, and will be eligible for Maryland State Department of Education credit. These courses will be hosted at the new Haven Street location of the Emerging Technology Centers in Baltimore.

In the Field

Last week, Shelly Blake-Plock was in Villanova, PA delivering a presentation on social and mobile technologies to the Pennsylvania Distance Learning Association. Additionally, Shelly joined the Badge Alliance’s Research Working Group and has recently published a piece in MindShift on the topic of business thematics and educational technologies.

This last weekend, An Estuary’s Margaret Roth and Jason Lewis visited the Highlander Institute in Providence, RI to present a conversation on the design of technology for blended learning at the 2014 Blended Learning Conference. In addition to the presentation, An Estuary partnered with Highlander Institute to produce a badge-based digital complement to the event which ran on Sanderling.

In June, Margaret Roth and Dr. Mary Ellen Beaty-O’Ferrall from the Johns Hopkins University School of Education will be presenting on personalizing learning at ISTE 2014. We’ll also be making a special announcement shortly about some badge-based opportunities for folks going to Atlanta.
